Department Researchers Among the Winners of the Competition for Best Textbooks, Study Guides, and Monographs

We congratulate our colleagues on their success in the competition for the best textbooks, study guides, and monographs. According to the decision of the Academic Council of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,” the winners of the KPI awards competition were announced.

Among the awardees is a creative team from our department, including Professor Serhii Boichenko and Associate Professor Anna Yakovlieva, together with representatives of our stakeholders and partner organizations— Iryna Shkilniuk from the DEMET Research Laboratory of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Efficiency and Professor Artur Zaporozhets. Their monograph, published by Springer and indexed in Scopus, was recognized in the competition and received second place.

We sincerely congratulate our colleagues and wish them further professional achievements and new successes.

A Meeting on Updating the Department’s Educational Programs Was Held

Traditionally, a collegial meeting was held with program guarantors, working groups, and other internal stakeholders to discuss the content and proposals for improving the current educational programs of the department at the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree levels. In an atmosphere of thorough and comprehensive analysis of survey results obtained through questionnaires completed by students and external stakeholders, a working meeting was conducted under the leadership of the Head of the Department, during which proposals and comments on the educational programs were provided with the aim of their improvement and alignment with the current challenges of the labor market.

The discussion focused on tasks related to enhancing the content of the programs, assessment methods, and a stronger emphasis on practical training. A large volume of survey data and feedback from students and stakeholders was reviewed. All efforts are aimed at modernizing our educational programs.

We are preparing for further discussion with the wider department staff and representatives of the relevant Scientific and Methodological Commission of Ukraine. Such discussions have become a traditional and mandatory stage of continuous improvement, ensuring the quality of education and the high standard of our educational services.

Strengthening the Human Capital of the Energy Sector with Our Master’s Graduates

From December 22 to December 26, the department successfully conducted the defenses of qualification works—Master’s theses—by students of the Master’s degree program in Specialty 141 “Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electromechanics.” Our students demonstrated a high level of academic training, solid knowledge and skills, perseverance, and a strong commitment to professional development.

The Examination Committee, chaired by Professor Oleh Yurchenko, Head of Department at the Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, provided an objective and thorough assessment of the graduates’ level of preparation. Two theses were evaluated with a recommendation for awarding diplomas with honors. These achievements set an example for their peers and once again confirmed the high quality of engineering education delivered by the department’s academic staff.

Our graduates are in high demand at companies such as DTEK, Schneider Electric, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as other engineering companies involved in supporting the energy sector and the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Career Guidance Activities Continue During the Holiday Period

The department’s career guidance activities continue despite the holiday period. As part of the Engineering Week “KPISchool,” on January 2 the department hosted students of grades 8–11. A comprehensive range of educational opportunities, the learning environment, and the fields of study were presented.

We are grateful to all participants for their interest in energy-related fields of study and for their active participation in the meeting. We look forward to seeing you in our classrooms!

A Textbook Authored by the Department’s Staff Has Been Published

The textbook “Alternative Motor Fuels: Properties and Quality” has been published. The textbook was prepared by the department’s staff – Professor Serhii Boichenko and Senior Researcher Anna Yakovlieva – together with Iryna Shkilniuk, PhD in Engineering, Head of the DEMET Research Laboratory of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Efficiency, in collaboration with representatives of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, Dnipro University of Science and Technology, Lviv Polytechnic National University, as well as our stakeholders Andrii Pushak and Viktoriia Ribun.

The textbook presents the fundamentals of the theory and practice of the rational use of alternative motor fuels. The use of alternative motor fuels is positioned as a means of expanding the energy resource base, strengthening the state’s energy security, and reducing environmental impact. An educational and methodological framework has been developed to enable students to acquire knowledge and skills for making well-grounded and optimal decisions regarding the justification and selection of alternative fuels in each specific case of operation of transport equipment and energy facilities. The fundamental knowledge is based on the chemotological concept of the fuel life cycle, its quality, and its relationship with performance properties as well as the technical characteristics of equipment.

The textbook is intended for higher education students at various levels whose fields of study are related to the rational use of alternative motor fuels. In addition, it will be useful for engineering and technical specialists in oil refining and fuel supply, the energy sector, power and industrial engineering, and environmental protection.

The publication has been approved by the Academic Council of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute as a textbook for students in the specialties G3 – Electrical Engineering, G1 – Chemical Technologies and Engineering, and G11 – Mechanical Engineering.

Final Reporting Session of 4th-Year PhD Students Successfully Completed

The final reporting session of 4th-year PhD students of the department, held on 18–19 December 2025, has been successfully completed. Conducted in the format of an interdepartmental scientific and technical seminar, the session took place in a warm and constructive atmosphere. PhD students presented the results of their research and received highly qualified discussion, expert recommendations, and positive attestation conclusions to support their further preparatory activities toward the defense of their qualification work.

Cooperation with Stakeholders: Discussion on Updating the Educational Programme “Engineering of Intelligent Electrotechnical and Mechatronic Complexes”

On 12 December 2025, Kateryna Samchynska, a student of the Department of Automation of Electrotechnical and Mechatronic Complexes, met with Elvira Aliyeva, Project Manager at HHM One (Global 17), to discuss the update of the educational programme “Engineering of Intelligent Electrotechnical and Mechatronic Complexes.”

The meeting focused on analysing current trends in the engineering sector and identifying the competencies that should be strengthened in the renewed programme. Particular attention was paid to digitalisation, the implementation of BIM technologies, the development of digital-twin skills, and the integration of electrotechnical and mechatronic systems into complex engineering projects.

Elvira Aliyeva shared HHM One’s (Global 17) practical experience in digital modelling projects and emphasised the importance of training specialists capable of working with modern engineering platforms and intelligent systems.

“Today an engineer must possess not only technical knowledge but also digital tools that enable the creation of comprehensive models of objects. We support the programme update, as it will prepare specialists who are ready to address real challenges in modern engineering,” noted Elvira Aliyeva.

Cooperation with HHM One (Global 17) is an important step in the development of the programme and contributes to preparing competitive professionals in the field of modern engineering.

On December 10, 2025, a working meeting was held between the department’s academic staff and a representative of the stakeholder company “SV Altera Kyiv.” The event was attended by Yevhenii Lysenko, Head of the Electric Drive Department.

The meeting focused on discussing current industry issues as part of the review and update of the educational program “Engineering of Intelligent Electrotechnical and Mechatronic Complexes.”

During the discussion, Yevhenii Lysenko shared practical experience and emphasized the importance of using modern engineering tools. In particular, he provided a detailed explanation of the need for automated electric drive calculation systems to optimize gearbox selection. The stakeholder representative also drew the instructors’ attention to the possibilities of procuring specialized devices from leading global manufacturers and outlined the specifics of their integration and application in modern automation systems.

Cooperation with leading companies enables the adaptation of the educational process to real labor market requirements and ensures high-quality training of specialists within our educational program.

Representatives of the department continue to expand the internationalization of their activities

This week was filled with joint 🇺🇦🇩🇪 activities within the On-Campus Workshop under the DAAD MERIT-UKRAINE ENERGY project with Leibniz Universität Hannover.
The Ukrainian delegation was represented by educators from Igor Sikorsky KPI, Lviv Polytechnic, and the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.

The department was represented by:
– Head of the department, Professor Serhii Boychenko,
– Program Director of the Master’s educational program, Associate Professor Leonid Kulakovskyi,
– Coordinator for work with international students, Associate Professor Anton Toropov.

The workshop brought a positive communication atmosphere, informative meetings, presentations, constructive discussions, and the outlining of future plans. We are grateful to the hosting side for their attention to Ukrainian partners — something extremely important to us in this historic period.

Meeting with 4th-Year OA-21 Students on Academic Progress and Future Plans

On November 17, 2025, a meeting was held with the 4th-year students of group OA-21, Bachelor’s level, with the participation of the Head of the Department, S. V. Boychenko, the group curator, A. A. Khotian, and Senior Lecturer S. L. Priadko.
The event was dedicated to analyzing the educational process, academic performance, and student involvement in various activities.
Important educational matters and future plans were discussed.
